It\u2019s at that moment \u2013 when you\u2019re taking off layers in the airport car park \u2013 that you realise why people go sailing here almost every day of the year. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Winter here is nothing like the one you left behind at home<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whilst half of Europe wakes up to frost on their windscreens, in the south of Fuerteventura you can enjoy winter in short sleeves. The sun is shining, the temperature is just right, and it\u2019s absolutely lovely on board. This isn\u2019t just any old off-season trip: it\u2019s the same old plan, but in a different light.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What are sea conditions like in January and February?<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The southern part of Jand\u00eda is sheltered, and it shows: for much of the winter, the sea is calm at dawn and the sailing is superb. On some days the wind is strong and we decide on the spot, because the sea has the final say, but we go out every month of the year. If you\u2019re interested in the details, we\u2019ll tell you<a href=\"https:\/\/magicandsailing.com\/en\/blog-en\/what-is-the-windiest-month-on-fuerteventura\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> which months are the windiest in Fuerteventura.<\/a>  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What about the bathroom? Won\u2019t the water be freezing? <\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That\u2019s the question we\u2019re asked most often by those who visit in winter. The Atlantic off the Canary Islands doesn\u2019t suffer the same cold spells as the Mediterranean: the temperature here is pleasant all year round, so a dip in the sea is still appealing in January. That said, here\u2019s a tip from someone who sails every day: take a light jacket with you for the return journey, because it gets chilly out at sea even when the sun is shining (it\u2019s something to<a href=\"https:\/\/magicandsailing.com\/en\/blog-en\/what-to-bring-on-a-boat-trip-with-us-in-fuerteventura\/\"> take with you on a boat trip)<\/a>.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fewer people on board, more sea for you<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There\u2019s one advantage that hardly anyone mentions: in winter, sailing is a more peaceful experience. There are fewer crowds on the quay, the decks are less crowded, and you get the feeling that you have the boat a little more to yourself. It\u2019s the same trip, but enjoyed with a greater sense of tranquillity.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dolphins don\u2019t go on holiday<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cetaceans remain in Jand\u00eda during the winter; it\u2019s their home all year round. And there\u2019s one thing we\u2019ve noticed trip after trip: with the water a little cooler, it\u2019s easier to spot large, playful groups. We can never guarantee it, as they\u2019re wild animals, but winter is by no means a bad time of year.
