Introduction to the snorkelling experience from a boat
Floating over clean and transparent turquoise waters, breathing calmly while watching multicoloured fish swimming among volcanic underwater landscapes… Snorkelling in Fuerteventura is not just an activity, it’s a way of experiencing the ocean. And if you do it from a boat, the experience is elevated to another level. But to get the most out of it, you need to know what to take with you and what not to take on one of these excursions.
Preparations before the tour
Choosing the right tour
At Magic & Sailing we design our excursions with all types of adventurers in mind: from those who are trying snorkelling for the first time, to those who are looking for a full day of sailing, relaxation and contact with nature. Make sure you choose a tour with a good reputation (see our reviews), personal attention and all the necessary equipment included.
Book in advance
Places are usually limited, especially in the busiest months. If you already know when you are going to be in the south of Fuerteventura, book in advance and avoid being left without a place.
Review weather conditions
Although Fuerteventura enjoys a privileged climate almost all year round, it is advisable to keep an eye on the sea conditions. Our team will let you know if there are any changes, but it is always useful to be prepared.
Essential checklist: what to bring
Basic equipment
– Comfortable swimming costume, preferably one that does not move easily in the water.
– Lightweight or microfibre towel.
– Cap and sunglasses with fastening.
– Watertight bag or waterproof rucksack to store the necessary items.
On our excursions we DO NOT INCLUDE snorkelling equipment (mask, snorkel and fins if you need them), but you can bring your own equipment and enjoy snorkelling as we have a 45 min stop for swimming.
Responsible sun protection
Use biodegradable and waterproof sunscreen to protect yourself without damaging the marine ecosystem. Solar radiation in the Canary Islands is strong even on cloudy days.
Documentation and small essentials
– ID card or passport, in case you need to identify yourself.
– Mobile or underwater camera with waterproof case, if you like to immortalise moments underwater.
Recommended clothing
– UV T-shirt or lycra, to protect your back while snorkelling.
– Dry clothes to change into at the end of the tour.
What to avoid taking on a snorkelling tour
- Unnecessary or valuable items: Avoid carrying jewellery, expensive watches, tablets or technology without waterproof protection. They can easily get wet or even end up at the bottom of the sea.
- Non-biodegradable cosmetics: Perfumes, common sun creams or make-up are not only unnecessary, but also harmful to marine wildlife.
- Inappropriate footwear: No closed shoes or stiff sandals. Comfort and safety on board start with the right footwear.
Practical tips for maximum enjoyment
- Arrive with time and an open mind: Come with the desire to disconnect. Leave your stress behind and get ready to experience the sea with all your senses. We will take care of the rest.
- Follow the team’s instructions: On our excursions, a guide will explain how to use the equipment, which areas to explore and how to move in the water. Take advantage of his experience!
- Respect the marine environment: Don’t touch corals, collect shells or disturb marine animals. The real luxury is to observe without disturbing.
Safety and welfare on board
Enjoy the snorkelling without worries, wear a lifejacket if you can’t swim well, stay close to the group and if you get tired, float quietly and let the guide know.
A paradise underwater: the south of Fuerteventura
Marine life you will see
In crystal clear waters you will discover trumpet fish, bream, octopus, rays and even turtles, if luck is on your side. Our guides know the best snorkelling spots depending on the season.
Underwater volcanic formations
The seabed near Jandía and Morro Jable offers landscapes that seem to be from another planet: arches, black stones and sandbanks between rocks.
If you visit Fuerteventura, don’t miss the opportunity to take one of our boat trips in the south of the island. We invite you to sail or speedboat, with food and drinks included, enjoy the Atlantic breeze and have a good swim with our snorkelling equipment included, a unique experience that you will always remember!
