Fuerteventura is much more than just sun and endless beaches. Its southern coastline hides some of the most authentic and memorable experiences to enjoy with the family. If you are planning your holiday and looking for safe, exciting activities that both adults and children will enjoy, this article is for you.
Here we suggest a range of activities where the sea, nature and relaxation combine to offer unforgettable moments. Spoiler alert: not all of them involve lying in a hammock.
Why choose the south of Fuerteventura for a family holiday?
- It has the best beaches on the island (Morro Jable, Jandía, Cofete, etc.).
- Its sea is ideal for excursions, snorkelling and boat trips.
- The climate is stable all year round.
- There are options for both adventurers and those who just want to unwind.
- It is quieter than other areas of mass tourism.
Furthermore, most activities are designed for all audiences, so you won’t have to give up adult enjoyment because you are travelling with children or teenagers.
1. Boat trip with dolphin watching
One of the favourite experiences for families visiting the island is whale watching. Going out to sea and seeing dolphins swimming freely is not only exciting for children… it is also exciting for adults.
🐬 Magic Dolphin
- Fast, comfortable and safe boat.
- 2 hours long.
- Hotel pick-up included.
- Drinks on board.
- Swim stop in the Atlantic if conditions permit.
- Specialised staff and a guide who explains everything we see.
✨ An educational, eco-friendly and fun activity, without crowds or overcrowding.
2. Evening stroll to enjoy with the family
Although many couples choose this excursion for romantic moments, there are families who decide to enjoy a sunset together from the sea, either to round off their holiday or simply as a peaceful and different activity.
- Smooth sailing.
- Background music.
- Drinks on board.
- Complete peace of mind.
Ideal for families with older children or teenagers looking for a more emotional and relaxed experience.
3. Relaxing day at Playa del Matorral
Very close to the port of Morro Jable, this beach offers calm waters, a blue flag, easy access and services for spending a whole day on the sand without a care in the world.
- Ideal for families with young children
- Restaurants nearby
- Seafront promenade with a family atmosphere
- Views of the Jandía lighthouse
4. Visit to the Cofete Viewpoint (and its wild beach)
An option for adventurous families. From the viewpoint, you can contemplate the immensity of the Jandía Natural Park and its legendary Cofete Beach. It is not recommended for prams, but it is suitable for older children or teenagers.
Tip: An SUV or similar vehicle is required due to the complexity of the terrain. You may wish to consider a guided 4×4 tour.
5. Snorkelling in crystal clear waters
Fuerteventura is a paradise for those who love to observe marine life from the surface. The waters south of the island, especially in areas such as Jandía and La Lajita, allow you to enjoy tropical fish and volcanic seabeds with just a mask and snorkel.
Some boat trips (such as those offered by Magic & Sailing) include snorkelling equipment, but you can also snorkel from the shore if conditions allow.
6. Group tasting of local products
An original way to introduce children to local culture is through their taste buds. In the south, you will find farms that offer family tastings of:
- Majorero cheese.
- Gofio.
- Homemade jams.
- Mojo sauce and Canarian olive oil.
🧀 An ideal activity to do in the morning and then combine with a trip to the beach or a walk.
What if we are a large family group?
No problem. At Magic & Sailing, we have boats that are ideal for large groups:
- Magic Select: capacity for up to 104 people. Perfect for large families, celebrations or shared excursions.
