A trip out to sea can be the best day of your holiday… if you’re prepared. This guide will serve as a practical and responsible checklist to help you enjoy your excursion in the south of Fuerteventura, with practical tips designed for our Magic & Sailing trips.
The essentials (must-haves)
- Broad spectrum sunscreen (minimum SPF 30), sunglasses and a cap or hat with a fastening.
- Water and a small snack if your excursion does not include it. (Drinks are offered on many Magic & Sailing trips; please check your booking voucher).
- Lightweight/quick-drying towel and swimsuit.
- UV T-shirt or lycra top to protect shoulders and back on deck.
- Lightweight windbreaker (it can get chilly at sea).
- Non-slip footwear or secure flip-flops (not loose).
- Mobile phone with sufficient battery power and, if possible, a waterproof case or bag.
- Basic documentation (identification and booking details).
Extras that make a difference
- Cloth bag or small rucksack (avoid plastic bags that blow away).
- Wristband or strap for your mobile phone/camera (no more scares).
- Compact binoculars for distant observation.
- Bring your own goggles and snorkel if you fancy a swim and exploring the wonderful waters of Fuerteventura (but don’t stray too far from the boat when we stop for a swim).
- If you are prone to motion sickness, or think you might be, talk to your doctor so that they can recommend some tablets for motion sickness.
All our trips include hotel pick-up, drinks and food on board (except for Magic Dolphin, which does not include meals as it is a shorter excursion) and a stop for swimming if the sea conditions allow it. Always check your booking confirmation to review everything included in your specific trip.
What NOT to bring (and why)
- Loose objects (unsecured caps, large towels blowing in the wind): they blow away easily.
- Glass and fragile containers: dangerous if dropped or broken.
- Strong perfumes: they bother other passengers and attract insects in port.
- Drones: require permits and are not suitable for wildlife observation.
- Single-use plastics: the sea does not need any more waste.
Tips for viewing marine wildlife respectfully
- Please remain quiet during sightings and listen to the guide.
- Do not feed or attempt to touch the animals.
- Do not ask for close encounters: in responsible observation, the crew maintains distances and times so as not to interfere with their behaviour.
- If you go swimming, follow the team’s instructions and never dive near wildlife.
Final summary micro-checklist (write it down)

Frequently asked questions from users
Can I bring my own drinks/food?
Yes, if you want to bring something extra on your own, that’s no problem at all.
Is there always a toilet break?
Yes, but it can be affected if sea conditions are not suitable. Safety comes first.
Can I use my snorkel?
Yes, provided that the skipper authorises it and it is outside wildlife areas and with the boat stationary.
Is seeing dolphins or whales guaranteed?
No. They are wild animals. Even so, the routes and the team’s experience maximise the chances.
