A magical journey across the island: from Corralejo to the whales and dolphins of Jandía

Why visit Jandía from Corralejo or elsewhere on the island of Fuerteventura?

If you’re staying in the north, it’s natural to look at the map and think that heading down to Morro Jable is ‘quite a journey’. But those of us who live by the sea in Fuerteventura know that you haven’t truly experienced the island until you see how the colour of the water changes as you reach the south.

For us, March is the month of balance. The weather treats us to days with temperatures ranging from 18°C to 24°C, and the trade winds usually give us a break, leaving the ocean calm. It’s the perfect time for that road trip along the FV-2, which ends with a reward that the north, due to its geography, simply cannot offer.

Why head south when there are already boats in Corralejo?

It’s a question you might ask yourself, even though people come to visit us from all over the island, including from the far north. The answer lies in what you cannot see: the Jandía Abyss. Whilst the seabed is flatter in the north, here the continental shelf drops vertically just a few metres from the coast. It is a natural highway of nutrients that attracts resident species such as the tropical pilot whale and the bottlenose dolphin.

In Morro Jable, we don’t go out to ‘search’ for animals; we go out to encounter them because this is their home. As we sail through a Special Conservation Area (ZEC), the experience is far more unspoilt and wild.

Stress-free travel: logistics and fears

We know that driving 100 km can seem like a bit of a slog, but the journey itself is a sight to behold. A stop at the Mirador de Sotavento viewpoint before you reach the pier will give you the photo everyone wants.[3] If you don’t have a car, bus route 1 connects the island, although we always recommend hiring a car for greater flexibility.

And if you’re worried about feeling seasick after such a long drive, our catamarans, such as the Magic Select, are true havens of stability on the water thanks to their twin-hull design.

Which boat will you board when you arrive?

So you don’t waste time deciding when you see the masts in the harbour, here’s our handy decision tree:

  • Are you coming with the whole family and need plenty of space? Magic Select is the place for you. Total peace of mind and our famous Mozarabic chicken to recharge your batteries.
  • Looking for a peaceful atmosphere and signature cuisine? Head to Magic Dreams (12+). Enjoy an atmosphere of absolute tranquillity with gourmet tapas from one of Jandía’s finest chefs.
  • Are you short on time and just want to spot dolphins? The Magic Dolphin is all about agility. Two hours of adrenaline that’ll have you back up north by mid-afternoon.
  • Are you looking for an unforgettable sunset? Our Aphrodite Sunset tour will treat you to a truly special moment as you watch the colours of the sky and sea in Fuerteventura, whilst the sun’s rays slowly dip below the horizon, seeming to disappear beneath the water.

Crossing over to Fuerteventura for a sailing trip in Jandía isn’t just another day out; it’s the day you’ll understand why this island is a Biosphere Reserve. Our team will be waiting for you at the jetty, with everything ready for an unforgettable experience.
