A fin whale is a type of baleen whale, and its migration is a natural phenomenon that usually occurs in our waters during April and May.
If you’re lucky enough to be sailing with us during these spring weeks, keep your eyes on the horizon. This is the season when the giants pass by. Fin whales, up to 20 metres long, use our coastline as a migration corridor on their way to the cold waters of the north.
Thanks to the mixing of the waters off Jandía at this time of year, which brings nutrients up from the seabed, these impressive baleen whales find a place here to recharge their batteries. Watching a fin whale blow from the deck of a boat is one of those experiences that makes you feel small and, at the same time, immensely fortunate. Our crew is always on the lookout: in May, the Atlantic always has a surprise in store.
